Wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin/wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter im Fach Klassische Philologie
An der Sprach- und Literaturwissenschaftlichen Fakultät der Katholischen Universität Eichstätt-Ingolstadt ist ab 01.10.2014 eine unbefristete Stelle zu besetzen als wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin/wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter in der Laufbahn eines Akademischen Rats im Fach Klassische Philologie

Bei Vorliegen der allgemeinen beamtenrechtlichen Voraussetzungen kann die Ernennung in das Beamtenverhältnis zum/zur Akademischen Rat/Rätin in der Bes. Gr. A 13 erfolgen. Andernfalls ist die Einstellung in einem Arbeitnehmerbeschäftigungsverhältnis in der Entgeltgruppe E 13 TV-L vorgesehen. Die Stelle kann unter bestimmten Voraussetzungen auch mit zwei teilzeitbeschäftigten Arbeitnehmern besetzt werden.

Aufgabengebiete sind insbesondere:

die Beteiligung am Lehrangebot des Faches Klassische Philologie in Höhe von 10 Semesterwochenstunden, insbesondere in der sprachlichen und der sprachwissenschaftlichen Ausbildung der Studierenden Übernahme von Verwaltungsaufgaben und Beteiligung an der akademischen Selbstverwaltung Beteiligung an Organisation und Weiterentwicklung der Studiengänge des Faches Klassische Philologie sowie selbständige Durchführung der Fachstudienberatung Selbstständige Forschungsleistungen auf dem Gebiet der Sprachwissenschaft und/oder der Griechischen Philologie. 

Einstellungsvoraussetzungen sind ein im Fach Klassische Philologie erworbener Doktorgrad oder eine mit Erfolg abgelegte Zweite Staatsprüfung für das Lehramt und nach dessen Erwerb eine mindestens zweijährige hauptberufliche wissenschaftliche oder praktische Tätigkeit im einschlägigen Fach. Herausragende Publikationsleistungen und internationale Vernetzung, Vertrautheit mit modernen philologischen und literaturwissenschaftlichen Methoden und Theorien sowie Kenntnisse in Englisch und mindestens einer romanischen Sprache sind erwünscht. Engagement, soziale Kompetenz sowie Freude an interdisziplinärer Zusammenarbeit werden erwartet.

NEWCASTLE UNIVERSITY – SCHOOL OF HISTORY, CLASSICS AND ARCHAEOLOGY

Lectureship in Ancient History

The School of History, Classics and Archaeology is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Ancient History commencing September 2014.

The successful candidate will be required to offer research-led teaching in the field of Ancient History at undergraduate and postgraduate levels; this will include contributions to team-taught Ancient History modules (undergraduate and MA). They will also be expected to contribute to the development of postgraduate research at Newcastle, and to take on a share of administrative tasks. Suitable candidates with any research and teaching specialism in Ancient History will be considered;  those with particular research interests in Hellenistic history, the history of the early Empire, or the Greeks in the Roman Empire are especially encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will have a PhD and will be expected to make a significant contribution to our submission for the next Research Excellence Framework (REF).

Call for papers and call for assistance

FIEC has received an appeal for support that we would like to further to our members and other interested parts. L’ensemble Kérylos, known for its recordings of ancient Greek music, has started a new recording project, inter alia an incantation found in a Louvre codex and a passage from a Medea by Karkinos, found in a Louvre papyrus. In order to carry this project through, they need funding. We can only recommend this project to the good hearts of our readers. An international conference on North African patristic sermons takes place in Malta in April 2015. The conference is organised by the research group History of Church and Theology and Literary Studies: Latin Literature of the University of Leuven in collaboration with the Augustinian Historical Institute of Malta. The organisers have now issued a call for papers, see here.

MINISTERIUM - AN INTERNATIONAL COLLOQUIUM ON NORTH AFRICAN PATRISTIC SERMONS, Malta, 8-10 April 2015

Call for Papers

On 8-10 April 2015 the research units History of Church and Theology and Literary Studies: Latin Literature of the University of Leuven will organize, in collaboration with the Augustinian Historical Institute of Malta, an International Conference on North African Patristic Sermons. This conference, which will be supported by the Scientific Committee of the Series Latina of the Corpus Christianorum (Brepols Publishers) and the review Augustiniana (Heverlee/Leuven), will bring together scholars who have recently made important contributions to the study of patristic homiletics.

The conference will take place in Malta, at the Augustinian Historical Institute. It  is meant as a sequel to the conferences organised in Leuven/Turnhout (30-31 May 2008) and Rome (15-17 September 2011) entitled ‘Ministerium sermonis’, the proceedings of which have been published in Instrumenta Patristica et Mediaevalia 53 and 65 (Brepols, Turnhout 2009 and 2012). While the previous two conferences focussed on Augustine’s preaching, the 2015 conference will be dedicated to the broader field of patristic sermons in Latin North Africa. We remain interested in Augustine, but warmly welcome all contributions devoted to other African preachers/sermons. A lecture should be 40 minutes long and will be followed by a general discussion of 10 minutes.

Committed keynote speakers include: Isabelle Bochet, Luc De Coninck, Hubertus Drobner, Carol Harrison, Eric Rebillard, and Clemens Weidmann.

If you would like to deliver a lecture during this conference, please send the provisional title, abstract (max. 500 words) and a concise CV (max. 500 words) before 1 June 2014, to:

We will let you know whether your paper is included by 1 July 2014. Subsequently, all participants are kindly invited to announce the definitive title of their lecture and send us a short abstract (or hand-out, which will be put in the conference map for all participants) before 1 January 2015. The organizing committee has the intention of publishing the contributions to the conference as quickly as possible within Instrumenta Patristica et Mediaevalia, published by Brepols Publishers.

The Augustinian Historical Institute of Malta will provide lodging and meals. Participants are asked to make and pay for their own travel arrangements.

Here is some information on forthcoming conferences and courses. The courses are in most cases open both to PhD students and researchers.

The University of Helsinki offers a spring course on ”Canonizing Medieval Literatures”, for PhD and master students. For further information, see here.
