14 PHD POSITIONS TO START IN AUGUST 2016 AND PRE-DOCTORAL POSITIONS IN VIENNA

“The Marie Curie ITN HHFDWC (“The History of Human Freedom and Dignity in Western Civilization”) – a collaboration between 6 universities and 9 non-academic partner organizations across Europe – invites applications for 14 full-time, three-year Early Stage Researcher (ESR) positions. The ITN offers an interdisciplinary environment and an innovative training program that allows the ESRs to obtain specialist knowledge of a specific research topic as well as transferable skills that can be used in non-academic institutions.”

In its investigation of the history of human freedom and dignity, the project is particularly concerned with the continual reception of Origen of Alexandria.

REMINDER: AIA & SCS ANNUAL MEETING

There are two pieces of information we would like to share with you this week.

Firstly, we would like to remind you of the fact that the AIA (Archaeological Institute of America) and the SCS (the Society for Classical Studies) are going to hold their joint annual meeting from the 6th to the 9th of January in San Francisco. JOB OPENING IN PROTESTANT THEOLOGY, BONN, GERMANY

Secondly, we would like to announce to you that the Faculty of Protestant Theology of Bonn University is offering a full-time position of Research Associate within the scope of their long-term project “Die Akten des Konzils von Ephesus 431. Übersetzung, Einleitung, Kommentar und Register” (“The records of the Council of Ephesus 431. Translation, Introduction, Commentary, and Index”). The main task of the researcher will thus be to translate the Latin material into German and to write the corresponding commentary.

„Die Akten des Konzils von Ephesus 431. Übersetzung, Einleitung, Kommentar und
Register“

an der Evangelisch-Theologischen Fakultät der Rheinischen Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität
Bonn (Abt. Kirchengeschichte / Lehrstuhl Prof. Dr. Wolfram Kinzig)
soll zum frühestmöglichen Zeitpunkt eine Stelle als

Wissenschaftliche/r Mitarbeiter/in (100%)

besetzt werden. Die Stelle ist zunächst auf 36 Monate befristet, eine Verlängerungsoption
wird angestrebt.

Zu den Aufgaben des Mitarbeiters/der Mitarbeiterin gehört die Übersetzung und
Kommentierung der lateinischen Akten in der maßgeblichen Edition durch Eduard Schwartz
(Acta Conciliorum Oecumenicorum). Die Möglichkeit der Einarbeitung wird gegeben.

Einstellungsvoraussetzungen:

− abgeschlossenes wissenschaftliches Hochschulstudium in den Fächern Klassische
Philologie (Latinistik) und evtl. Theologie;
− mit mindestens magna cum laude (oder äquivalent) abgeschlossene Promotion in
Latinistik, vorzugsweise zu einem Thema aus der (christlichen) Spätantike;
− Interesse an theologiegeschichtlichen Fragestellungen;
− deutsche Muttersprache;
− sicherer Umgang mit den gängigen Computer-Anwendungen;
− Freude an der Mitarbeit in einem internationalen Team aus Theologen und Philologen
unterschiedlicher Konfessionen.

Die Möglichkeit zur (externen) Habilitation in Klassischer Philologie oder ggfs. in
Kirchengeschichte ist gegeben.

Die Vergütung erfolgt nach E 13 TV-L.

“The FrenchSchool at Athens, the Swiss School of Archaeology in Greece, the Hardt Foundation for the Study of Classical Antiquity in Vandœuvres, near Geneva, in collaboration with Melissa, the Athenian publishing house, will present their activities and publications at the AIA & SCS Joint Annual Meeting at the Hilton Hotel International, San Francisco, January 6 - 9, 2016. Their booths will be situated together in the exhibition hall.

AIEP EVENTS 2016


As one of the positive results of our connection to AIEP, l’Association Internationale d’Études Patristiques, we are pleased being able to share with you the following information promoted by both our organizations. It is a list comprising important events related to the field of Patristic Studies that will take place during the first half of 2016:

 

1)      The panel ‘The Emperor Julian', sponsored by the Society for Late Antiquity, will form part of the 2016 meeting of the Society for Classical Studies (formerly the American Philological Association), to take place in San Francisco between 7 and 10 January 2016. 2)      On the occasion of the 1600 years after the promulgation of Pope Innocent I ’s Decretal Letter to Decentius, bishop of Gubbio (19 March 416), the Pontifical University of St. Anselm in collaboration with the Diocese of Gubbio, is organizing a study day on 18 March 2016. 3)      The Department of Church History at the University of the Holy Cross, in collaboration with the University San Pablo CEU in Madrid, will organize the seventeenth Conference of the Faculty of Theology on the topic "Higher education in Church History: schools, teachers, methods ". The purpose of the meeting is to reflect on the relationship between Church and higher education on the basis of the study of some of the forms that this relationship has had along history. The conference will take place from 9 to 10 March 2016 in the Aula Magna of the Palazzo dell'Apollinare, where the University is situated, near Piazza Navona. All those who wish to participate with a communication (15 minutes) should send the title, along with a summary (150 words) and a short CV, by January 31, at the following address: convegnoth@pusc.it.

 

4)      The John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin and the Polish Patristic Section are organizing an international conference on the theme 'The Church Fathers in the polemics against heresies' on 17-19 May 2016. 5)      The XVIII International Conference on Greek, Roman and Byzantine Studies will be held in Lisbon, Portugal, from 13th to 14th June in 2016. The deadline for proposals is 14 October 2015. For information, go here.

 

6)      The Archdiocese of Tucumán, Argentina together with the National University of Tucumán is organizing the I Congreso Teológico Tucumán: "Eucaristía, del Mysterio de Cristo al Misterio del hombre-Dios" to be held 13-15 June 2016. For more information, go here.

RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIPS AT THE HARDT FOUNDATION

Today we would like to inform you of the Call for Candidates for 2016 that has been published by the Hardt Foundation (Fondation Hardt), a highly esteemed research centre based in Vandoeuvres, Switzerland. The foundation offers Research Scholarships for young researchers covering stays of two to four weeks.

Note that candidates, i.e. PhD candidates (2nd year, at least) or post-doctoral researchers, are required to be 35 years of age or younger at the time of application.

The deadlines for applications are the 30th of November for stays requested between early February and the end of June, and the 30th of April for those between early September and early December.
